Dreaming of Maldives

I had been dreaming of Maldives for a long time now. So you can imagine my joy of finally getting to enjoy this paradise with the love of my life for our honeymoon. Can you imagine? The freaking Maldives! Whenever you see the perfect postcard of an island, it’s most likely from here.

When you think of Maldives, your expectations are going through the roof as well. Let me tell you, Huvafen Fushi will not disappoint. Huvafen Fushi is a Luxury Boutique Hotel, restricted to age 16+, located in North Male Atoll. In Dhivehi, the Maldivian language, Huvafen Fushi literally means “Dream Island”. Trust me, this is the perfect name to describe the resort. Here you can dip your toes in the warm, incredibly clear water, dine in incredible restaurants, snorkel one of the Maldives best house reefs and enjoy your own private stretch of white sand. And just when you think you reached perfection, you’ll find the world’s first underwater spa.

Dreaming of Maldives

On our arrival, the resort sent somebody to await us at Malé International Airport. Within a few minutes we’re outside and beside the private boat that will take us from the mainland to the island. A quick 30-45 minutes boat ride then takes place.

At Huvafen Fushi you get to choose from 44 different types of rooms equipped with private plunge pools (44 is a small and exclusive number in the Maldives). You can choose from Beach Bungalows or go over the water in either the Lagoon or Ocean Bungalow and 2 top gorgeous high-end water Suites.

Ocean Bungalow

Waking up in the Maldives is something everyone should experience before they die. The view from the bed in my Ocean Bungalow overlooked the plunge pool which overlooks the ocean. It’s an incredible sight, serious postcard material. The Ocean Bungalow has another amazing view, which is the sunset. You also get to enjoy the best “TV” in the world, your glass floor in the living area. I loved watching all those fishes, especially at night when they become quite vicious. I got to see one huge fish eating a smaller one in just a second. You also have a designated thakuru, a personal butler, that will take care of you throughout your stay. You are provided with a phone in order to reach your own thakuru at any times, for any requests you may have. Our thakuru, Chainy, was amazing and made our dreams reality.

You will never get bored here. The resort offers a range of activities for you to enjoy. You could spend your entire holiday at Float, their water sports centre. Chainy was very attentive, explaining to us everything that we can do on the island, and what activities are a must considering we were spending only 3 nights at the resort. We ended up spending our days snorkeling right in front of our bungalow. Right in front of the Ocean Bungalows, you will find the house reef that protects the island. Here you will find so many different fishes, sharks and several types of rays. Everyday, around 18:30 island time, you can participate at a stingray feeding. It was very nice learning so many things about them and interact with them.

Maldives
Our favorite place to relax

Huvafen Fushi has a great infinity pool. I’ve seen quite a few infinity pools just placed next to the ocean and that’s it. This one is well thought of, with the mosaic blue tiles and shape that does look like it opens up to the sea. It’s so soothing to relax in the pool after a long day of snorkelling in the ocean. We almost always had the pool to ourselves despite the resort being full of guests. Next to the infinity pool you will find another unique pride of Huvafen Fushi, and that is salt water pool. The water is so salted that you will float without any difficulties.

Can you tell where the infinity pool ends?

As a day trip, we chose to have a private lunch on a sandbank. To reach the sandbank, you will have to take a Dhoni. A Dhoni is a beautiful handcrafted Maldivian traditional boat. While it may look traditional on the outside, on the inside is equipped with cutting edge technology. You will find there a bedroom with the most comfortable king size bed, a fully equipped kitchen and a very spacious living area and bathroom. My favorite part was at the front of the Dhoni. There were several beanie bags where you can stay and enjoy the blue waters around you. I even had the chance to catch a tuna while sailing! Later on, Chainy used it to make us a delicious Maldivian soup.

Another unique feature is the spa. The Spa is standing at 7 meters under the lagoon in the middle of a coral garden and surrounded by thousands of colourful fishes swimming around the 180 degree panoramic windows, all while you enjoy your treatments. We haven’t got a chance to try any treatments during our stay, but at least we have an excuse to go back now.

Huvafen Fushi lives in my memory as one of my favourite holidays. The staff was one of the most attentive that I’ve seen and made us feel so special and well taken care of. Thank you Chainy for everything and Jyoti for taking care of us during our dinners. We went looking to relax after those hectic months of planning our wedding, but we found ourself doing something every day due to the vast amount of activities on offer. So if you are dreaming of Maldives as well, this is the perfect place for you!

And this is how waking up in a tropical paradise looks like
